THE DARE!

I think I was a bit of a daredevil back in secondary school...

Usually doing the dumbest dares because I found them to be thrilling and exciting, or just because every other person was scared or ashamed of doing it.

It's our final year of secondary school and, I and my dope ass friends who by the way understood the beauty of the game, decided to take it up a notch.

The dare was to approach a girl whom would be assigned to you, and get her to like you within a week, and if you 'FAILED' the penalty was 500 Naira.

Our secondary school, though a mixed school, boys and girls weren't allowed to stay in the same classroom or eat in the same dinning hall.

...and, the girls who were selected, were the unapproachables and snubs of our set. Every guy was basically terrified of even THINKING of approaching them.

The dare was made on a Thursday and so from Friday to the next it was GAME ON!
So, lets call the girl I got assigned to, Sophia (pretty, slim, light skinned...).

Whenever I'd go to the school library to study, I would occasionally see her, and so this gave me an idea...

Monday comes, I dress up and head to the school library but she doesn't show...

I do the same on Tuesday and still, no sign of her.

Wednesday,  Nothing!

It's Thursday now, and she still doesn't show.

At this point, It was looking like I was going to lose without being able to do anything.

... AND I HATED IT.

The next day, Friday, being the last day of the dare, was our school's Inter-House sports rehearsal, which meant that everyone was going to be outside.

I knew I had lost my chances at being successful at the dare (... i mean, what could I do with a day?), but at that point it wasn't really about the dare anymore...

Yes, I wanted to prove the point that I could do it...
but maybe, because talking to her had been the most dominant thing on my mind that week...
I now really wanted to talk to her, regardless of the dare.

It's Friday and everyone's out, the hostels are locked, she had to be outside for sure this time.
So I walk around the school and finally I spot her, FINALLY!

But now that she's infront of me, i'm terrified!

What if, I go to talk to this girl, and she snubs the living hell out of me in front of everyone???

So I keep procrastinating, and she enters her hostel...

I was so close to giving up, but when I saw one of my friends who was also involved in the dare talking to the girl he was assigned to, I'm like "NAHHH... can't be me!!!".

So I send a junior to call Sophia out, and She comes out, almost immediately, not even giving me the chance to figure out what I was going to say or how I was going to say it.

She's in front me, her arms folded, and just staring at me without saying a word...

So I said "Hi, what's up?"

 She doesn't reply...

At this point, It was clear that this was going to end badly.

But, I continued,

"So ehmm, I was wondering if I could call you out this evening, maybe after dinner, so we could talk?"

And she's like...

"No... If you can't tell me about it right now don't even bother calling me out in the evening because I won't come out".

... and I genuinely had nothing to say!

So I'm trying to stall for time so I could think up something, but it felt like she could read my bullshit and now her voice was gradually getting irritated, and so was her face, but I couldn't just tell her that I called her out of hostel because I wanted to be friends...

I HAD NOTHING TO SAY!

"please, can I go back into my hostel?"

DAMN!!!

... at this point im thinking to myself that maybe just asking her to be friends was less pathetic than looking like a complete idiot.

"Okay, I'm going to be honest... I called you out here because..."

And just as I made that sentence an idea popped into my head and without thinking about it, I just Said it.

"I want you to be... My RIVAL"
I said, staring at the ground.

After a while, I look up at her face and I could tell, she was in shock, and out of nowhere she busts out laughing so hard that people were turning towards our direction, her eyes were even tearing.
And for the first time with a smile on her face, she asked,
"How do you mean?"

BTW, BIG SHOUT OUT TO NARUTO!!!
The OGs know!

So I explained to her what I meant by being rivals, and for something that I came up with at the last second, it sounded credible and smart.
From there we just kept on talking and getting to know a lot about each other, so much time passed without us even realizing it, until we heard the dinning bell. It turned out we had been there for over two hours and it felt like minutes.

The End!
